Nu Rho Omega's Chapter History

Nu Rho Omega received its charter on December 13, 1980 under the leadership of Barbara Kinard Phillips, International President and DeLoris Oliver, South Atlantic Regional Director.

On December 4, 1979 a group of seventeen sorors met with the idea of organizing a chapter. They succeed in chartering the first chapter of a black Greek letter organization in Hinesville/ Liberty County, Georgia.

Cardell Hunt was the first president and others Chartered members included: Deborah Cambell-Robinson, Ruth Ghee, Lillie Gillard, Gladye Harris, Carolyn Herring, Christallia Ingram, Adelphenia Jackson-Brown, Dwinda Lewis-Wilson, Gloria McFadden, Jean Moore, Shirley Osgood, Fay Terry, Bertha Thorpe, Janice Turner-Taylor, Celestine Varnedoe-Jackson, and Essie Wilson.

The chapter’s goals were to foster high scholastic achievement, heighten awareness of the arts and to upgrade health care. Nu Rho Omega started out with seventeen members and now has over 100 members to fulfill its promise to “Serve all mankind”.
